Description
Tilt one foot and strike the inside edges of its toe tap and heel tap on the floor at the same moment, making one chunky sound. It can also be played on the outside edges of both taps. It is usually an accent, often at the end of a phrase.
Breakdown
Count (one cell per sound · counts vary by teacher)
Clunk1
Practice Tips
- Aim for the heel and toe taps to hit at exactly the same instant. If they separate, you get two sounds (a flam) instead of one clunk.
- Let the ankle roll only as far as it needs to for the tap edges to meet the floor. Keep it relaxed rather than forcing the foot sideways.
