Description

Swing the free foot forward so the ball tap brushes the floor, then let the back edge of the heel tap strike right after as the foot keeps moving forward. The heel sound can be a dig (the heel stays on the floor) or a scuff (the heel carries on through into the air). Two quick sounds from one foot; whether weight follows depends on the next step, as in the riff walks.

Practice Tips

  • If the two sounds land together, start the foot a little behind the standing foot and tilt the toe down so the ball clearly meets the floor before the heel does.
  • Keep the ankle loose and the swing small - the sounds come from the foot passing through the floor, not from pushing down into it.
